Casablanca promotes the model of a smart and sustainable city by organizing the second edition of the Smart City Expo Casablanca.
Under the theme “Cities by all”, the event will take place from May 17th to 18th at the Hyatt Regency and will bring together more than 85 speakers to discuss concrete solutions to the challenges cities are facing nowadays.
Casablanca, Morocco – March 13, 2017: Casablanca aims to become a real Smart City, both frugal and sustainable. To achieve this, the metropolis implemented an attractiveness approach, “WeCasablanca”, built on many assets of the region”: its vitality and dynamism, which make of it the leading economic and industrial center in Morocco, its expanding entrepreneurial ecosystem, boasting start-ups fivefold greater between 2012 and 2015, its role as a financial hub in Africa, its status as the country’s main hub of higher education, its avant-garde architecture, cosmopolitanism and social mix.
As an active, pioneering, young and multicultural metropolis, Casablanca concentrates all the qualities to carry the message Smarts Cities and their debates around sustainable development, citizen involvement, mobility and urban planning. In 2016, the city held the first edition of Smart City Expo Casablanca, a real success, bringing together 5,000 visitors, 83 speakers, 47 cities and 30 exhibitors.
This year, through the Casablanca metropolis, Morocco will again take up the challenge between the17th and 18th of May 2017. Indeed, Smart City Expo World Congress has selected Morocco to welcome institutions and companies wishing to exchange on best practices in innovative urban policies during this emblematic event. Like the first edition, the second edition of Smart City Expo Casablanca will be co-organized by the local development company Casablanca Events & Animation and Fira de Barcelona, in collaboration with its strategic partners: the Wilaya of Casablanca- Settat region, the Casablanca City Council and Casablanca-Settat Regional Council, with the support of The World Bank and UN Habitat.
Under the theme “Cities by all”, Smart City Expo Casablanca will welcome more than 85 speakers around 4 plenary sessions, 2 keynotes speakers and 8 parallel sessions. The agenda includes a networking session in which main global urban development actors will share their points of view through conferences moderated by experts and cities officials, companies, research centers, universities, governments and international organizations.
Smart City Expo Casablanca will showcase and discuss the development of Smart Cities in Africa by proposing solutions to the most pressing challenges facing cities nowadays. The event will focus on five major themes (resilience and climate change, urban and technological innovation, future mobility, collaborative society and attractive cities). Participatory governance, territorial marketing, innovation, public transport or renewable energies will also be debated to enable Casablanca to promote the successful urban model of a sustainable, creative, and connected city tuned to the voices of its inhabitants.
